Change is in the Air

LEADING THE TRANSITION – LEADING ON CHANGE

The East of England Energy Zone is a world leader for clean energy generation, leading the UK’s transition to Net Zero and at the forefront of the decarbonisation agenda.

We are doing this by connecting opportunities to people by capitalising on our unique position and offering – all energy, supply chain excellence, world leading centres of innovation, national and international transport links and a committed group of agencies driving clean growth. The East of England Energy Zone offers the space and ideal conditions for a wealth of innovative energy developments, providing clean energy to the UK.

A unique, diverse, all energy offering.

As a region we are a leader in wind – with the UK’s largest concentration of operational offshore wind, a dynamic port infrastructure and a business environment that offers capacity, capability and connectivity.

We are the home of Southern North Sea gas exploration and production with a significant infrastructure in place including the Bacton Gas Terminal which currently gathers, processes and distributes one third of the UK’s domestic gas requirement.

Existing and new nuclear power generation further strengthens the region’s place at the heart of the UK’s journey to Net Zero. Sizewell B generates 1.2GW of clean energy and Sizewell C is being designed to produce reliable power to the national grid.

Large-scale solar, onshore wind and bioenergy power generation is growing in the region. Alongside a network of world-class energy focussed research facilities, academic establishments and a skilled energy workforce, the East of England is driving the UK’s decarbonisation agenda to build a clean energy future.

Opportunities

All of this adds up to opportunity in energy:

  • Construction, operations and maintenance of large-scale clean energy projects
  • Supporting the critical role of gas in the UK’s energy mix
  • The introduction of emerging clean energy sources including hydrogen
  • The repurposing of parts of the gas network and depleted gas fields for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS)
  • Gas to Wire, Power to Gas and Platform Electrification technologies
  • Clean energy R&D, innovation and technology
